Juror's statement:

It’s Important for us all to document our lives, our community and our world. Photography is a universal language I love because it allows us to tell these stories without speaking a word.

Keiki O Ka Honua, Three Generations, Eager Spirits, Pure Joy and Balance; these are just a few of the images that are the Faces of Hawaii. Enjoy.

The islands of Hawaii have been the destination for a diaspora of global culture; the faces of our community reflect a geologic layering of influence from Polynesian immigration to contemporary tourism.

About Our Juror, Craig F. Walker

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Photography, Craig F. Walker began his career in Massachusetts at the Marlborough Enterprise, and later the Berkshire Eagle, before joining the staff of the Denver Post in 1998.

Since September 11, 2001, Craig has used his camera to bring to light personal stories of the men, women and children across the globe whose lives have been caught up in the reverberations of the attacks on the U.S. From the aftermath of the fall of the twin towers in New York to the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, he has captured some of the seminal moments of the continuing geopolitical conflict.

In 2010, Craig was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his photo essay "Ian Fisher: American Soldier", an intimate portrait of a teenager who joins the Army at the height of insurgent violence in Iraq, poignantly searching for meaning and manhood. See Craig's award winning work at
