Hawai'i Tourism Authority Promotes Cultural Tourism Seeks Materials from Artists and Arts Organizations to Showcase the Variety of Culture and Arts in Hawai'i

Aloha HSFCA Constituent:
In a year-round marketing effort to showcase the variety of culture and the arts that Hawai‘i has to offer, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA) seeks materials from artists and arts organizations for the purpose of promoting cultural tourism to help attract potential visitors to our islands.
The HTA has contracted Pacific Network, a newly created Internet network and website, to be the venue that features Hawai‘i’s artists and arts organizations on the Pacific Network website's Arts & Culture Channel. Artists and arts organizations may submit brief text, jpegs, and/or videos to the HTA for formatting on Pacific Network. A description of Pacific Network’s efforts is discussed in a Letter to Artists and Friends from Edgy Lee.
By focusing on more pre-arrival exposure, potential visitors who are looking for ways to connect more closely with our culture can go to the Pacific Network website and access information about artists plus calendar listings of cultural events and activities while they are still in their decision-making process.
Pacific Network will use the submitted material for the sole purpose of promoting an artist’s material as a means of featuring Hawai‘i’s artists and its arts organizations. The HTA and Pacific Network will not use any material submitted by an artist to promote the commercial sale of goods or services. In lieu of a general release, a Limited License Agreement has been provided to clarify the proposed use of the artist’s material by Pacific Network.
Please click on the links for the Specifications Sheet and the Limited License Agreement that you will need to submit along with your materials. Send your materials and form to Lois Kajiwara, Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, 1801 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815. For more information, please call Lois at 973-2268 or email her at lkajiwara@hawaiitourismauthority.org. The HTA requests that materials be submitted by Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

ART KAUAI 2008: Entries due Sept. 6.        Opening Sept. 13, 2008. Art Kauai 2008, the annual juried exhibition sponsored by KSA, will be taking entries on Sept. 6, 2008, and is open to all adult Kauai resident artists. KSA membership is optional. Juror and entry details are currently still being finalized, but up to 3 to 5 entries may be entered from each artist, and there will be NO size limit (other than it will have to fit through the doors!). This is a fully juried show, so artists considering entering large work should keep in mind that the juror's decisions may reflect the limited space available. This is the most prestigious KSA exhibition, with the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts visiting to purchase works for the State "Art in Public Places" collection. Watch for full details and entry forms on this website and in the July newsletter.

MAKAWAO- On August 18, 2008 Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center called for entries for their fall art exhibition. This year’s theme, “Artistic Alchemy,” invites local artists to explore and interpret this ancient, mystical science.

Practitioners of this early belief examined nature in an attempt to transform basic materials. The Hui hopes that the concept of alchemy inspires Maui’s artists to unlock their own magic through their unique creative process. The exhibition will highlight the essence and interpretations of the artist and will be shown at the Hui No`eau gallery from October 10th to November 8th.

Entries may be made online at www.callforentry.org until September 18, 2008. Receiving day for entries at the Hui No`eau will be October 3, 2008 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. Entry fees are $10 for members and $20 for non-members for each entry. For detailed eligibility requirements and forms, please visit the Exhibitions tab at huinoeau.com or call 572-6560 ext 26.
