Multifaceted Big
Island artist, Michael Shewmaker, is primarily
known for his large format photography. In the
early seventies he studied metalsmithing at
Southern Illinois University and worked as a
blacksmith for several years. In his current
exhibition of sculpture at idspace, he returns
to his roots.
In 2007, Shewmaker was accepted for the Seventh
Annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition,
sponsored by The Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland,
Florida. His work entitled 'Volute' is installed
there for one year.
His current
series of work entitled ‘Obiter Dictum’ will be
on display at idspace from January 6th to
February 29th, 2007.
