1. Oil Basics I and Oil Basics II – With Elfie Wilkins-Nacht
Description: Elfie Wilkins-Nacht is a well schooled artist and experienced educator. Rather than teaching any one style, Elfie will educate new painters in the real concepts and skills that make up artistic talent. New painters will learn how to handle oil paints, as well as some of the basics of light, perspective, and color. This is a great introduction to oil paint that will give you the skills and confidence to really paint.
Supplies: Bring your own supplies, a selection of the six primary colors, brushes, and a canvas pad. Solvent is provided.
TIMES: 5 Tuesdays from 3-6PM

2. Drawing for Adults and Drawing for Youth – With Jacob Medina
Description: Jacob Medina’s popular classes are Back at Hilo Art & Glass Supply! Jacob will be teaching drawing in his usual friendly, information rich style. Jacob earned his formal degree in art from UH Hilo, but he still knows how to make drawing fun, while pushing his students to take on new skills. Ages 6 and up are welcome in the youth class, while the adult class is more for adults without much drawing experience.

4. Florals & Foliage in Watercolor – With Kerri Ligatich
Description: Kerri kicks off her series of watercolor classes with Florals & Foliage in Watercolor, an exploration of the many watercolor techniques available to you to handle flowers, petals, stems, and leaves. Kerri’s patient and thorough style of teaching makes her the perfect guide to finding control of this sometimes mystifying medium.
Times: three Tuesdays from 9:30AM to Noon.

5. Landscapes in Watercolor – With Kerri Ligatich
Kerri will introduce studetns to dealing with spacial relations, depth in your landscape, as well as great techniques for landscapes and foliage like Lifting, spraying, and sponging.
TIMES: Three Tuesdays from 9:30AM – Noon. Starts March 18th.
COST: $60.00

6. Seascapes in Watercolor – with Kerri Ligatich
Kerri takes it to the next depth, the ocean. Both underwater and above water paintings will be explored. Tips on how to achieve that transluscent depth of water and the play of light on its surface will be covered.
TIMES: Three Tuesdays from 9:30 AM – Noon starts April 15th.

7. Exotic Textures in Watercolor – with Kerri Ligatich
Learn to paint metals, transparent glass, or even a woven basket without being intimidated! Consult with Kerri on your trickiest texture, and gain confidence you can use in your still-lifes. Students may work from photos or real objects. Kerri will show you howto pick the right colors and surface to do what you’re looking to do, as well as the skills to make it happen.
TIMES: Three Tuesdays from 9:30AM – Noon starts May 13th.

8. Do your own Silkscreen Printing – Lisa Franklin & Julianna Peckinpaugh
Silkscreen Printing – 4 Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:30 PM starts March 4th.
In this class you will learn the basics of preparing and printing a silkscreen. Lisa Franklin and Julianna Peckinpaugh will show students how to produce quality silkscreened images with easy to use supplies that don’t require any special equipment. Anyone can silkscreen at home with success after completing this class.
Cost: $100.00

9. Kids Collage and Mixed Media – Lisa Franklin
Lisa teaches this Kids’ art class for ages 6 and up. Students will have experience with a large variety of collage and other types of art materials, including acrylic paints, watercolor paints, neat collage varnishes, special tools and brushes, and lots more. Students will sink in up to their elbows and pull something creative out of themselves.
TIMES: 4 Wednesdays 3PM – 5PM starting April 9th.
COST: $85.00 most materials included.

10. Beginning Watercolors – Susan Laufer
Class will focus on basic techniques for painting using transparent watercolors. Discussions will include material choices, color theory, application methods, representing light, specialty techniques and when to use them, and correction methods. Students should walk away with a minimum of two completed paintings.
TIMES: 4 Saturdays 2-5

11. Simple Stained Glass – Eva Terada
Simple Stained Glass – 4 Saturdays 10AM – 1PM starts March 8th.
Eva Anderson-Terada teaches this introduction to the copper foil method of stained glass assembly originally created by Tiffany Studios. Students will get a comprehensive education on all stained glass tools and techniques needed to assemble a small panel piece or a window hanging. This is so much more fun than struggling through all the variables alone!
Cost: $140.00

12. Traditional Glass Painting – Eva Terada
This class will show you how to paint a grisaille painting and fire it permanently into glass. This is what you are looking at when you see faces and hands painted into stained glass windows. We will also play with enamels and brighter colors for a less traditional approach to this classic medium.
Cost: $90.00

13. Ukrainian Easter Eggs on Good Friday – March 21st 1PM – 5PM One Day Only!
Come get in the spirit of Easter, Ukrainian style! This all-ages class is truly the fine art of egg dying. Using hot wax, parts of the egg are masked before dip dying in successive layers creating a gorgeous, vivid art egg.
Cost: $15.00 – all supplies included

14. Your Art: Analysis and Evaluation – Saturday March 22nd 2-5PM One Day Only!
Elfie Wilkins-Nacht will lead this insightful workshop focusing on the strengths and weaknesses in a piece of art. Elfie received her MFA from UCLA in painting and photography. She has been making art, teaching studio and art appreciation classes, and acting as a juror to art competitions for twenty years. This is a great opportunity to objectively analyze your art on the basis of its formal elements while breaking away from personal taste. Students are asked to bring in two to five pieces of their best artwork. This is your chance to get help selecting your strongest works before the EHCC’s juried art competition in April!
Cost: $15.00
