Volcano Art Center and the Hawai‘i Island
Hawksbill Turtle Recovery Project are proud to
announce Honu‘ea 2012, a juried art
exhibition celebrating Hawaii’s endangered
honu’ea (hawksbill sea turtle),
(Eretmochelys imbricata).
Amateur and professional artists of all ages are
encouraged to submit works of art
raising both awareness and funds for these
critically endangered
sea turtles.
Open to living artists of all ages,
working in all mediums.
All works must be accompanied by an entry form
and the appropriate entry fee of $25
(for up to 2 works)
for adults, ($20.00 for VAC members). Youth
(under 18) may enter their artwork for $5.00

Tour in Volcano.
This one-hour nature walk travels through a lush
portion of an old-growth Hawaiian rain forest on
an easy, 1/7-mile loop trail. The walk

the native plants and birds of Volcano. Guides
focus not only on the biological, ecological,
and geological features of the area, but also
the cultural usages of flora and fauna by native

Wilderness First Responder Certification Course
from the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS.
This intensive 80 hour course is a must for
outdoor professionals, as many jobs require this
certification. Learn how to confidently handle
injuries like wound management, realigning
fractures and dislocations, splinting
techniques, CPR and spinal traumain a remote
setting. Learn how to improvise with things
available on an outdoor expedition. Students
also train in triage situations and a night-time
search and rescue mission. Certification is
valid for two years. Three credit hours are
available through the University of Utah. Most
importantly, this course gives you the tools to
make correct decisions in critical wilderness
